We began our journey as a literary group in January of 2022 with The Brothers Karamazov. The book was already broken into 12 sections, plus the epilogue made for an impressive 13 month journey. So we met once a month for a year at The Bella Union, a local pub in Jacksonville Oregon. Gathering around the table in the back we grew to know the mind of Dostoevsky, his concerns with the modern European influences on a traditional Russian society as well as circling around our own modern concerns.
It was a wonderful journey and I came to really value everyone in the group. We developed an affinity for the word “liminal” and one member produced little diplomas for the group. I was really proud of what we created and was happy when everyone decided to keep meeting.
